PSU hosts the 6th AUN-AYCF Thailand Chapter, promoting cultural heritage and youth collaboration

Prince of Songkla University served as the host for the 6th AUN-AYCF Thailand Chapter under the theme “Wisdom of the Land… Toward ASEAN Arts,” held from April 20–25, 2026, at Suvarnabhumi Institute Establishment Project, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus, PSU Hatyai Campus. The program aimed to promote cultural learning, strengthen youth networks, and expand collaboration among AUN-AYCF member universities in Thailand.

The opening ceremony, held on April 21, 2026, was presided over by the Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, with participation from faculty members, students, alumni, and representatives from partner institutions, including universities and cultural institutions across the region. The event reflected strong collaboration within educational and cultural networks.

The Vice President highlighted that the program provides a valuable platform for students to learn about ASEAN cultural heritage, arts, traditions, and local wisdom through both academic knowledge and hands-on experiences. It also helps develop essential skills for today’s global environment, including cross-cultural communication, teamwork, adaptability, and leadership with a global perspective.

The Acting Deputy Director of the Suvarnabhumi Institute Initiative emphasized that the program builds upon the experiences of Thai representatives participating in the ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum (AYCF), creating opportunities for students to engage in workshops, performances, and collaborative activities, while fostering a network of youth committed to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

Over the five-day program, participants engaged in a variety of activities, including cultural exchange sessions, performance workshops, study visits to Songkhla Old Town, traditional ceremonies, academic discussions, rehearsals, and live performances. These activities provided opportunities for knowledge exchange, creative collaboration, and cultural appreciation in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and friendship.

Highlights included performances such as Khon from the Ramakien, Nora dance, ASEAN cultural performances, and creative showcases prepared for the upcoming AYCF 2026 stage. A key highlight took place on April 24, featuring a series of performances that reflected the integration of diverse cultural arts across ASEAN.

The event also included the official handover of the host flag for the 7th AUN-AYCF Thailand Chapter to Rangsit University, ensuring the continuation of cultural collaboration within the AUN-AYCF network.

This initiative underscores PSU’s role as a platform for intercultural learning and its commitment to advancing cultural collaboration in higher education, while empowering youth to preserve, promote, and sustain the rich cultural heritage of Thailand and the ASEAN region.
