PSU officially launches Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital as a central hub for comprehensive traditional medical services




On 30 May 2025, PSU President Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub chaired the official opening ceremony of the Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital and the Thai Traditional Medicine Academic Conference held at the Faculty of Thai Traditional Medicine, Hat Yai Campus. The event featured a welcome address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oratai Neamsuvan, Dean of the Faculty of Thai Traditional Medicine. The ceremony was attended by university executives, faculty administrators, representatives from various organizations, faculty members, staff, students, and alumni.



Dr. Niwat stated that the establishment of the Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital marks another significant achievement that reflects the university’s commitment to advancing holistic healthcare in alignment with the cultural context, local wisdom, and the quality of life of people in the southern region.



Thai traditional medicine is a heritage of wisdom passed down through generations. Today, it continues to evolve through ongoing research and integration with modern medicine, supporting health care in all dimensions—prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and health promotion. PSU is firmly committed to promoting Thai traditional medicine as a vital force in the national health system, particularly in the context of innovation, quality service delivery, and its role in driving the health economy. This vision aligns with the national policy to position Thailand as a global health and wellness hub.

Dr. Niwat further stated that this Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital is not only a healthcare facility providing comprehensive services in Thai traditional medicine, Thai traditional massage, midwifery, and Thai pharmacy, but also serves as a vital learning center for students, academic personnel, and those interested in the field. It aims to promote the integration of local wisdom with modern knowledge for holistic healthcare. The hospital’s operations go beyond treatment, focusing on elevating Thai traditional medicine to professional and international standards. This will pave the way for innovation, knowledge creation, and the development of the health economy through products and services based on Thai wisdom. The university is confident that this hospital will serve as a model for promoting and developing a standardized system of Thai traditional medicine, recognized both nationally and internationally, while sustainably generating value and economic opportunities for the country.




Dr. Oratai stated that the establishment of this Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital is a result of the university's strong commitment to promoting and advancing Thai traditional medical wisdom as a standardized and viable healthcare option. The goal is to integrate Thai traditional medicine with modern medicine to better serve the health needs of the population, particularly in the southern region, which is rich in heritage and valuable local knowledge related to herbs and traditional healing practices.

Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital, PSU is the first Thai traditional medicine hospital in the country to be certified with HA (Hospital Accreditation) Level 2. The hospital is committed to serving as a comprehensive center for Thai traditional medicine, integrating treatment, research, and education in alignment with its vision to become a leading Thai traditional medicine hospital serving Thai society. The facility can accommodate up to 38 outpatients per hour and 12 inpatients and is staffed by experienced faculty and professionals in Thai traditional medicine to ensure the highest quality of care. Furthermore, the hospital aims to be a central hub for research and education in Thai traditional medicine and herbal science, with the potential to advance to international standards.




The event also featured an academic seminar on Thai traditional medicine and knowledge exchange sessions. Highlights included a special lecture on “Developing Thai Traditional Medicine Service Systems in Hospitals” by Dr. Jakrawut Pueakkong, and another special session on “Research and Innovation for the Advancement of Thai Traditional Medicine,” delivered by Ms. Amornrat Ratchadoem from the Division of Thai Traditional and Herbal Medicine Development; Ms. Thitaree Jakratornsuwan, expert Thai traditional medicine practitioner from Ratchaburi Hospital; Mr. Witsawa Rattanachai, expert Thai traditional medicine practitioner from Singhanakhon Hospital; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Julalak Chokpaisarn, Associate Dean for Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital, PSU.
