PSU organized WORLD HAPEX 2024, elevating Halal standards in tourism, hospitality, and wellness




On August 29, 2024, the Halal Institute, PSU, hosted the Halal International Trade Exhibition and Conference 2024 (WORLD HAPEX 2024) under the theme "Halal for Tourism, Hospitality, and Wellness." The event was presided over by Mr. Permsuk Sutchaphiwat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, alongside distinguished guests, including Mr. Mohamed Abdulla Mahmood Alkooheji, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Thailand, His Eminence Mr. Aroon Boonchom, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, President of PSU, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Asman Taeali, Director of the Halal Institute at PSU. The event brought together leaders from both the public and private sectors, university administrators, staff, media, and participants to discuss and promote advancements in the Halal industry.




The World HAPEX 2024, held from August 29 to September 1, 2024, at the International Convention Center (ICC) of PSU, aimed to expand opportunities in the halal tourism and wellness industry. The event provided a valuable platform for researchers and academics to exchange knowledge, present research papers, and share academic insights into international halal tourism and wellness services. It also fostered collaboration in research and innovation, supporting the development of these services. Furthermore, the event raised awareness among halal tourism and wellness operators in Thailand's southern border provinces, creating competitive opportunities for both domestic and international businesses.



The event featured a keynote speech by Abdulaziz F. Alrushodi, Director of the Halal Center, Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also showcased 23 international research papers from 10 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Australia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Indonesia, Algeria, Cambodia, and Laos. In addition, academic discussions were held with prominent halal experts both locally and internationally.

The Global Halal Forum, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explored the topic “Perspectives on the Development of the World Halal Industry, Its Opportunities and Challenges: in the Case of Each Country.” Another highlight was the launch of the Halal Tourism and Hospitality Management Program, promoting Muslim-friendly tourism, along with a panel titled “Golden Opportunities for Thailand’s Food Industry in the Global Halal Market.”

Furthermore, the Halal Business Matching activity brought together business partners from 8 countries, including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Bahrain, Egypt, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This initiative resulted in approximately 50 business negotiations, valued at an estimated 30 billion baht.



The event featured a diverse range of activities, including an Anasyid contest organized by the Islamic Cooperative Association of Asiddeek Co., Ltd., and a vibrant Muslimah Day celebration. A significant highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Islamic Committee Confederation of the Five Southern Border Provinces. Thought-provoking discussions were held by I-Bank and Exim Bank under the theme “A New Dimension: Golden Opportunities for Thai Halal” Other notable events included Halal Business Matching, the highly anticipated World HAPEX TOP CHEF 2024 competition, and a speech contest. Visitors also explored exhibitions from both government and private sectors related to the halal industry, showcasing over 200 vendors offering a variety of products, from freshly cooked food, beverages, and health products to cosmetics, Muslim clothing, and halal services. The event served as a dynamic platform for boosting economic growth, with engaging performances highlighting the rich traditional arts and culture of southern Thai Muslims, creating a memorable and enriching experience for all attendees.
