Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, launches “APP TECH – Solving Poverty for Pattani People: Ready-to-Use Technologies” featuring 10 technologies designed to address poverty in the southern border provinces.
On the morning of November 11, 2024, at the Pattani Campus Office, Prince of Songkla University (PSU) held a Kick-off event for the presentation of appropriate technologies under the project “App Tech for Pattani People: Ready-to-Use Technologies to Empower Communities and Alleviate Poverty in the Southern Border Provinces.” The initiative is supported by the Program Management Unit for Area-Based Development (PMU-A).
The “App Tech to Solve Poverty for Pattani People” project applies appropriate technologies to address poverty issues in Pattani Province, with the aim of increasing income and improving the quality of life of local communities. The project has developed a variety of innovative technologies, such as a scrubber system for soot capture, a soil leveler for salt fields, and an energy-saving biomass stove system. These technologies can be effectively applied in both the agricultural and small-scale industrial sectors.
The project also emphasizes knowledge and technology transfer to communities, enabling them to build upon and sustainably develop these innovations. It is expected to serve as a model for using technology to solve social problems in other areas in the future.

PSU Pattani Presented Three Key Proposals to the Prime Minister Aiming to Eradicate Poverty and Promote Social Opportunities in Pattani Province
On February 27, 2024, during Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s visit to Pattani Province to promote the “Travel to the Deep South with All Your Heart” tourism campaign, Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus (PSU Pattani), represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Attachai Ueanantasun, Vice President for Pattani Campus, presented three key initiatives addressing poverty eradication, grassroots economic development, and social opportunity creation in the province.
- Cultural Heritage for Community Learning
- PSU Pattani was entrusted with the ownership of a 170-year-old traditional house at No. 5 Anoru Road, donated by the Prichayakorn family. The house now serves as a learning and cultural center for visitors to explore Pattani’s historic old town, preserving local identity while generating community income through cultural tourism.
- Multicultural Ring Research Project
- Through funding from the Program Management Unit for Area-Based Development (PMU-A) over the past five years, PSU Pattani has conducted the “Multicultural Ring” project, revitalizing the old town area into a community tourism destination. This initiative promotes local entrepreneurship, community product development, and economic inclusion by empowering residents to participate in tourism-based income generation.
- Data-Driven and Innovation-Based Local Development
- Leveraging its academic expertise, PSU Pattani is developing a database to analyze high-potential tourism areas and those in need of targeted support. The university also applies scientific research and innovation to create value-added products from natural and marine resources across six coastal districts — such as herbal products and processed seafood — to enhance local livelihoods and reduce poverty sustainably.
These initiatives reflect PSU Pattani’s commitment to SDG 1 (No Poverty) through integrated cultural, research, and innovation-based approaches, fostering inclusive economic growth and sustainable community empowerment in southern Thailand.
